About Skinny Guy Fitness
Hi, my name is Jeremy, and I'm the founder of Skinny Guy Fitness. I have a B.A. in Applied Exercise Science from the University of New England, and I'm a Certified Strength and Conditioning Specialist (CSCS) through the National Strength and Conditioning Association (NSCA).
In my six years as a professional in the strength and conditioning industry I've worked with everyone from Olympic gold medalists, to seniors passionate about staying active, to seven-year-olds just learning how to move their bodies.
I started this company with the goal of helping skinny guys build muscle and confidence, bringing everything I’ve learned in my career to an online setting to broaden my impact.
My goal with Skinny Guy Fitness is to create a platform that not only focuses on muscle gain but also emphasizes the importance of movement quality so that I can help skinny guys like myself look great and feel great.
My journey as a “skinny guy”
Growing up, I was always skinny. Early in college I was studying exercise science, playing soccer, working out with the team, and doing muscle-building workouts from fitness magazines, but I could never add any size.
Then everything started to click in my senior year when I took an internship in the campus gym with an exceptional strength and conditioning coach named Greg Hatheway. Greg was far overqualified to be there, so I gladly took the opportunity to absorb everything he could teach me. I learned a TON from him about how to really work out, and with his help I started seeing exactly what I had been missing that had been holding me back from my muscle goals. I made a few changes to the way I worked out and the personal gains started to come. It felt incredible to finally see results.
After graduation and a brief stint as the strength coach at my old high school, I took advantage of an opportunity to move to Vail, Colorado and work with elite athletes (including some Olympians and Olympic hopefuls) and the coaches who trained them. My time there significantly broadened my perspective on strength and conditioning as well as discipline, and I learned a lot from being immersed in a world-class performance culture. When I then moved into personal training, I was able to apply that high-level coaching and mindset to my clientele with great results.
After a few years of personal training in Vail, I decided to try to widen my impact by bringing my personal training online, and founded Skinny Guy Fitness.
My training philosophy: Move Well First
My training philosophy is surprisingly simple. My number one goal, whether working with a fitness newbie or an Olympic athlete, is to make sure they can move their body through daily life in an efficient, pain-free way without any dysfunction.
As humans, we all perform basic actions daily: walking, bending, squatting, picking things up, carrying things in different ways, going up or down stairs, pulling, pushing, etc. A good functional training regimen (if the term “functional training” is being used correctly) includes some variation of all of these natural human movements which can then be easily translated to sport and daily life.
So with efficient, pain-free movement as the foundation, I use functional training to build strength and muscle in a healthy way. As we go I continually analyze a client’s movement patterns and build any necessary corrective exercises into the workouts so we are simultaneously building strength and muscle and improving movement quality.
My programs evolve every few weeks as the client’s body adapts to each training phase, taking advantage of what’s called the “Stress Adaptation Cycle.” This keeps the workouts fresh and new in a way that challenges the body’s physiological systems and stimulates growth. By focusing on functional movement, adapting the training program over time, and tailoring it to your individual needs, we can achieve remarkable improvements in both fitness and daily life performance.
